How did Isaac Newton really discover gravity - apple or comet? BBC science
If you want to see Isaac Newton's seething passion, watch "The Invention of Calculus"
Whenever we learn we end up with more questions than we had before. Therefore there will always be matters that are supernatural.
So you have to go back 400 years to find a quote from a scientist uninformed enough about the structure of the universe to say such a thing? Actually Newton was one of the ones who started the process of de-mystifying the universe, leading to the rise of atheism. Given that just about 100% of people believed in some kind of deity in those days, you have to admit theism is in decline.
@ivlfounder Indeed, illness which was supernatural has become natural, what's your point? Also, I don't believe that there is some sort of limit to our understanding of the universe. In such a short time, science has discovered much about the way the universe works. It's only a matter of time. The only limit there could POSSIBLY be is a limit that we as a people (Or maybe just a religious majority) put on ourselves. Well, that, and the longevity of our species, but science is working on that.
Argument from authority is a fallacy.
I see, you're a grammarnazi with delusions of intelligence, how sad. In that case "L.O.L" being an acronym should always be capitalized and punctuated. Acronyms in addition could also never be used as a sentence as it lacks a subject and a predicate. Using a acronym as the entire word group would be one of the single most poignant examples of a sentence fragment imaginable. To conclude; u r a 'tard. It r teh intarweb. (No one of any stature gives a rats ass about typos.)
@Crioca If you want to claim that's a typo, fine; but at least know that "Internet" is always capitalized. Lol!
Oh no! I made a typographical error! Someone alert the internet police because this sort of thing simply *can't* be tolerated! Seriously, that's the best you can come up with? Commenting on a typo? That's your best argument?
Ya, you tell 'em! We need "mines" like yours to lead the way!
I wish Newton was here in the States heading our Treasury Department, as then our currency would have value ... instead of our crummy politicians watering it down and being utterly irresponsible in keeping things solvent.
Newton was a strongly religious man, even though he was able to conceptualize gravity and the physics behind it does not mean that his statements are based on rational reasoning. besides for his time Christianity was focusing it's message into a more scientific structure and language. Christianity, especially the Protestantism of Newton's day wanted to find the absolute truth about god, and wanted to find the God Message somewhere. anywhere. everywhere. Christians have been spouting too much bs
Look! is the banana man and the crocoduck fag!!! LOL
At one time contagious illness wasn't understood to be part of the natural world so at the time for us it was supernatural. Evn more frightening is that there is likely a limmit to what we can understand or as a great mind put it "We see the universe marvelously arranged and obeying certain laws but only dimly understand these laws."
@ivlfounder Umm...Isn't that sort of the point? By definition, something SUPERnatural is something that cannot be explained by natural means. If we manage to come up with natural explanations that make sense and fit the data we observe, then it is no longer supernatural. It is, like all other things in our universe, natural. What is changing isn't our definition of the word, its your ability to make bullshit claims that because we do not know something, GOD must have done it. BULLSHIT.
This is a deputed quote as it doesn't appear outside any religiously bias book. The tone and consideration that it was made via another means does not fit Newton's considerations of the time.
Next in the series: Was Your Grandpa, Who Was Really Smart and Was an Engineer or something, an Atheist? Was Gordon From Sesame Street an Atheist? Did Your Fourth Grade Science Teacher Go To Church? Was Leibniz a Jew Sympathizer?
LOL you fucking dumbass
jews killed Jesus!!!
I ment I'll have to look into the quote to see if Comfort was pulling a fast one.
I like how the video conveniently overlooks the other 7 planets that aren't at just the right distance. And the dozens of moons some of which are and aren't. And the billions of galaxies, each with billions of stars with their own planets and moons. Yes, the fact that one of these celestial bodies is the right distance from its star is providence of the divine and in no way could have happened by chance.
i am SIR ISAAC neton and i surtently belive in my vids......
@ivlfounder NO they tested it and it proved right ...
I'll have to look into the matter.
"Supernatural events have never been proven or observed" Just what supernatural is changes for you atheists. Everytime something is proven to exist or happen it's no longer supernatural thus you move the goal posts when it helps you.
